Pedestrian Killed Crossing Flamingo Road in Las Vegas

October hasn’t even ended, and there have already been 60 fatal traffic incidents in the Las Vegas Metro Police jurisdiction. The latest occurred early Saturday morning when a man was hit and killed by a car while he was walking across Flamingo Road.
According to the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, 44-year old Peter Callaghan tried to cross the roadway at the Swenson Street intersection against a traffic signal at 3:46am Saturday morning. A 2007 Lincoln Town Car driven by 66-year old Sharon Smith was driving westbound on Flamingo Road with a green light when the vehicle struck Callaghan. He was rushed to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from multiple blunt force injuries.
This incident reinforces what we have all been taught since childhood: don’t cross the street against a traffic light, even when it’s late and you don’t think any cars are around.
