Defective Products Sold At Lowe’s Almost Strangle Two Children

Parents do everything they can to keep their homes safe for their children. They baby-proof rooms, clean and sanitize surfaces, and place all dangerous products out of kids’ reach. However, the scariest scenario of all is for a child to get hurt by an object that is supposed to be harmless.
Unfortunately, that is what is happening with certain types of blinds and shades that were sold at Lowe’s Home Improvement stores in Las Vegas and around the country. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled a total of 11 million roll-up blinds and Roman shades because they pose a risk of strangulation to children.
In November of last year, a two-year old Colorado boy was found with the cord of the Roman shades wrapped around his arm and neck. And this past July, a four-year old boy in South Carolina managed to get the cord from a similar product wrapped around his neck, suffering a rope burn in the process.
As a result, certain models of Roman shades and roll-up blinds dating back as far as 1999 are being recalled. They were sold for about $10 each at Lowe’s retailers and through the company’s website. Some of the roll-up blinds which are equipped with release clips, along with Roman shades that came with repair kits, are not included in the recall. 
There are 13 Lowe’s stores in the greater Las Vegas area. If you have purchased some roll-up blinds or Roman shades from these retailers, stop using them immediately and contact the Window Covering Safety Council for a free repair kit.
