Dead Man Apparently Fell from Resort Roof on New Year’s Day

About 325,000 people rang in the New Year on the Strip in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, one of them never saw the sun rise on 2011.
Police are still trying to figure out exactly how a California man ended up dead on an elevated platform of the Planet Hollywood resort. It is believed that Adrian Carlin fell at least five stories from a rooftop pool area of the resort sometime during the first few hours of January 1. However, his body wasn’t discovered until two days later in a construction area which is not accessible to the public. At this point, police do not suspect any foul play and are calling the tragedy an accident.
Video footage from the hotel’s cameras reportedly shows Carlin and many other revelers walking onto the rooftop to watch the fireworks show. A friend of Carlin’s who came to Las Vegas with him said that he received a phone call about 12:30am on New Year’s Day from Carlin, who said he was drunk and could not get out of the pool area. The friend then tracked down a hotel maintenance employee, who was able to open the then-locked door about 40 minutes later. But Carlin was nowhere to be found.
A lawyer for Carlin’s family calls the accident “preventable,” and alleges that Planet Hollywood is guilty of negligence in the 25-year old’s death. The attorney says that many questions need to be answered, including how the door to the rooftop pool area was left open but later locked and why it took two days to discover the body. So it appears that we can expect a wrongful death lawsuit to be filed by Carlin’s family against Planet Hollywood in the future.
