Senator Reid Rushed to Hospital After I-15 Motorcade Accident

It seems like everywhere you look these days, there’s a news story or an opinion about the upcoming election. In fact, this blog was one of the relatively few places where politicians were not discussed… well, until today anyway.

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what caused a multi-vehicle accident that led to Nevada Senator Harry Reid being transported to University Medical Center. Shortly before 1:15pm this afternoon, the motorcade that Reid was riding in was involved in an accident on the northbound side of Interstate 15 past Sahara Avenue. Two of Reid’s motorcade vehicles, two Metro SWAT Police protection vehicles, and two civilian vehicles were caught up in the crash. Shortly after Reid was rushed to UMC (which was less than a mile away), a spokesperson said that the 72-year old senator suffered only what were described as “hip and rib contusions.” One of Reid’s staffers was also hurt in the wreck.

It’s unclear exactly what caused the six-vehicle accident or whether anyone else sustained injuries as a result of the pileup. But if there were indeed civilians who were hurt in the crash, they could choose to file personal injury lawsuits against the person or people found to be responsible for causing the accident. If the Metro Police vehicles are determined to be at fault, the plaintiffs could file suit against the city of Las Vegas. If any of Reid’s motorcade vehicles are to blame, then victims would have to sue either Reid, his office, or the agency or people in charge of operating the motorcade vehicles themselves.
