It’s been said many times before that two of the biggest factors in auto accidents are speed and alcohol. Some people may erroneously believe that these two variables aren’t really relevant on freeways, because speeds are relatively constant and there are few turns or changes in direction. But a crash early this morning is a tragic illustration of why that logic is inaccurate.
A deadly rollover accident took place shortly after 6am this morning in Las Vegas. The Nevada Highway Patrol says that a 2007 Ford Focus was traveling on the eastbound side of the Las Vegas Beltway (I-215) . The car was trying to exit onto southbound I-15, which involves driving onto a circular ramp.
It was on this curvy exit ramp that the driver lost control of the Focus, which went off the roadway and rolled over. The driver and two passengers were ejected from the car, and the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. One male and one female passenger were rushed to University Medical Center with critical injuries. The NHP says that it believes alcohol was a factor in the auto accident.
Since it was a single-vehicle crash, it is very likely that the driver is to blame for the accident. Even though the driver did not survive, the two injured passengers could file personal injury lawsuits against his estate if they choose to do so. Though such legal action may seem a bit insensitive, the reality is that the two injured victims will still have to pay for medical expenses and possible future physical therapy – and they may still be permanently disabled. A successful personal injury lawsuit could help defray many of those costs.
